A 32-year-old man is facing charges of assault and mischief after allegedly threatening staff members at a facility on Fairmont Drive and then using an ice pick to smash the glass front doors.
Police said the incident took place Tuesday afternoon at “a facility in the 400 block of Fairmont Drive.”
Although police did not specify where the incident occurred, that block is home to the Saskatoon Tribal Council’s new Emergency Wellness Shelter.
Nobody was hurt during the alleged incident, but police said the man became aggressive with staff members before smashing the doors.
“The complainant stated that the man attempted to assault a staff member with the weapon, but fled before anyone was injured,” police said in a statement.
Police said they caught up with the man while he was walking down the centre of the street a block away. He was arrested without further trouble, police said, and was “believed to be under the influence of an intoxicant.”
In addition to the mischief and assault charges, police noted the man was also the subject of outstanding warrants.
