A two-month-long investigation has led to numerous drug charges against a 41-year-old Hodgeville man.
In a media release, the RCMP said the Saskatchewan Trafficking Response Team in Swift Current and the Swift Current RCMP General Investigation Section started looking into the man’s activities in southern Saskatchewan and in Alberta in January.
After investigating, officers determined the man was in Hodgeville and, last Thursday, they executed a search warrant on a house in that town.
Police said the man was arrested and officers seized cash, 2.5 kilograms of methamphetamine, one kilogram of fentanyl, half a kilogram of cocaine and between 40 and 50 small vials of cannabis resin.
According to police, a second warrant was executed the same day at a house in Swift Current. Police said that search turned up about nine ounces of methamphetamine and about half an ounce of cocaine.
“Fentanyl is a very potent opioid pain reliever and is sometimes mixed with other street drugs. It can take many forms: A colourful powder, chunks, pills or patches. The fentanyl seized as part of this investigation was multi-coloured,” Supt. Glenn Church, the officer in charge of the Saskatchewan RCMP Saskatchewan Enforcement Response Team, said in the release.
“A few grains of fentanyl can be enough to kill you. I hope the quantity we have seized in this investigation can help to paint a picture of the magnitude of the danger this drug leaves in our communities if it is untraced. This was a significant seizure which will greatly impact the supply of the lethal drugs originally destined for southwest Saskatchewan.”
The suspect was charged with trafficking fentanyl, trafficking methamphetamine, trafficking cocaine, possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl, methamphetamine and cocaine, and possessing the proceeds of crime over $5,000.
Police said their investigation is continuing.
