Operators of Saskatoon’s bar on wheels have more reason to raise a glass this summer.
Pedal Pub owner Tate Bell told the 650 CKOM Morning Show on Tuesday they’re now licensed to sell alcohol while travelling around Saskatoon’s downtown.
“We’ve worked the last two years trying to amend the bylaw for the Pedal Pub in Saskatoon because it’s such a unique thing,” said Bell.
“Our city hasn’t had something like this, so it was a timely process. But Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority stood by us by the whole time and they were amazing to work with.”
With riders now allowed to consume beverages while pedalling, Bell said each Pedal Pub tour will have a designated driver and a bartender.
The pilots will have full control of the bike at all times while the bartender will be serving canned drinks, which are pre-purchased ahead of time by the group.
While it requires a little effort to pedal the bike, Bell said they ty to cater to everyone.
“We have five non-pedalling spots for anyone who is unable to pedal or just needs a break,” Bell said. “It can be a bit of workout going up those hills, but it’s not too bad.”
The Pedal Pub is taking bookings starting May 13.
