Two coyotes were euthanized in Saskatoon over the weekend, prompting a public warning Monday from the Saskatoon Police Service.
In a release, police said officers were called Saturday to the 600 block of Feheregyhazi Boulevard after a caller found a coyote lying in an alley and acting strange. The officers found the animal and determined it was in distress; the animal was safely put down.
Later, police were called about a sick coyote at the Sutherland Dog Park near Fedoruk Drive and Central Avenue. The officer who responded confirmed the animal was in distress and behaving abnormally. It too was euthanized.
Shortly after that, the officer was approached by a person who said another coyote that was acting strange had been seen in the park. That animal also was deemed to be in distress by the officer, but it took off before it could be put down.
Anyone who sees an animal that could pose a threat to public safety is urged to call police at 306-975-8300 or 911 if it is an emergency.
