Professional golf is set to return to Elk Ridge Resort this summer.
The Elk Ridge Saskatchewan Open — an event on the 2023 PGA Tour Canada schedule — is to be held at the resort at Waskesiu Lake from June 19-25.
The 2022 Elk Ridge Open was cancelled due to too much rain and unplayable conditions.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be partnering with PGA Tour Canada to bring high-calibre professional golf back to the province,” Ryan Danberg, the resort’s managing partner and the tournament’s director, said in a release.
“Our partnership group is extremely proud of Elk Ridge Resort, and we can’t wait to showcase the property to the world through our partnership with the PGA Tour Canada.”
Routes2SK Inc. — a group of six Saskatchewan-born and -raised professionals who bought the resort in October 2020 — will be the host of the Fortinet Cup event.
“We’re excited to work closely with Routes2SK and help its vision for the tournament come to fruition,” PGA Tour Canada executive director Scott Pritchard said in the release. “Elk Ridge is a beautiful golf course that I’m confident the players will not only enjoy but embrace.”
According to the release, the tournament will use a combination of the 27 holes at the resort. The first hole from the Tamarack Course and Nos. 2 through 9 from the Aspen Course will make up the front nine for the Open, while the back nine will be the entire Birch Course.
All proceeds from the tournament are to be donated to Hockey Saskatchewan and several junior golf programs in the northern region of Saskatchewan.
