Police recovered a trove of stolen guns, documents, power tools and electronics after the alleged thieves crashed into their own vehicle in a stolen truck.
According to the RCMP, officers responded to a collision between a pickup truck and an SUV near Marsden on March 7, but found nobody at the scene.
At about the same time, the RCMP said, the Cut Knife detachment received a report of a break-in at a nearby home. The report said the pickup involved in the crash was stolen, along with 11 guns.
After an investigation, four people were arrested in Marsden later that day, the RCMP said. One of them was released without charges.
“Investigation determined two of these individuals were operating the pickup truck and the SUV when they collided,” the RCMP said in a statement. “No serious injuries were reported to police.”
After searching two homes in Marsden, the RCMP located the stolen firearms along with an ATV, “fraudulent documents,” credit cards, and “a significant amount of power tools and electronics also suspected to be stolen.”
Three people from Marsden are now facing charges, the RCMP said.
The Mounties said officers in Cut Knife are still investigating the case and are working to return the stolen goods to their rightful owners.
“If you are missing a power tool or electronic and can positively identify it by serial number or markings, contact Cut Knife RCMP at 306-398-3500,” the RCMP said.
