The two first-place teams in the round-robin will play in the 1-2 Page playoff game at the Tim Hortons Brier.
Manitoba’s Matt Dunstone, who finished atop Pool A, advanced with a 5-3 victory over Brendan Bottcher’s Wild Card #1 entry in one of Friday’s Page playoff seeding games at the Canadian men’s curling championship in London, Ont.
Meanwhile, Team Canada’s Brad Gushue — the first-place finisher in Pool B in the round-robin — moved on to the 1-2 game with a 9-3 victory over Ontario’s Mike McEwen.
The 1-2 game is to be played Saturday evening.
McEwen and Bottcher will meet in the 3-4 playoff game Saturday afternoon. The winner will advance to the semifinal Sunday afternoon, while the losing team will be eliminated.
On Friday, Dunstone and Bottcher struggled to find offence throughout the contest. But Dunstone made a brilliant takeout with his last stone in the 10th end to score three.
In the other seeding game, Gushue led 3-2 after three ends before stealing three in the fourth and two in the fifth to take an 8-2 lead. McEwen conceded after the eighth end.
In the crossover round earlier Friday, Bottcher rode a three in the third end and steals of one in each of the fourth and fifth ends to an 8-5 victory over Northern Ontario’s Tanner Horgan. McEwen, meanwhile, made a last-rock double to score two in the 10th to eliminate Alberta’s Kevin Koe 9-8.
