Saskatchewan has another millionaire.
Allan resident Bruce Everitt won $1,131,009.97 on Monday after hitting the Vault Breaker grand jackpot while playing a VLT at The Thirsty Scholar in Saskatoon.
In a media release from the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC), Everitt said he didn’t know he was about to win the jackpot when three Vault Breaker symbols appeared on his screen.
“The lady next to me told me it looks like I won something,” Everitt said.
When five of the symbols appeared, he had won the grand jackpot.
He still wasn’t sure it had happened the next day.
“I asked my wife, ‘Did I win something last night?’ ” he said in the release, recalling that he then opened his bedside table and saw the winning ticket inside.
Everitt said he planned to use his winnings to pay off his mortgage and possibly take a trip.
According to the corporation, Vault Breaker links 4,200 VLTs from about 570 sites in 270 communities across the province.
It features three mystery jackpot tiers: The province-wide grand jackpot with a minimum value of $500,000 that pays out before it hits $1.5 million; the major regional jackpot with a minimum value of $5,000 that pays out before it hits $25,000; and the local site jackpot with a minimum of $100 that pays out before hitting $500.
Since June 2017, Vault Breaker has awarded more than $28 million to 30 winners. After Everitt’s win, the province-wide jackpot has been reset to $500,000.
