A big list of speakers are set to appear before a Saskatoon committee Wednesday about a city policy that has been widely debated online in recent weeks.
The issue stems from an alleged incident at the Shaw Centre on Jan. 27 regarding a male who identifies as a female, using the women’s change room at the leisure centre. The city in a statement said it had no reason to believe any inapproproate behavior occurred.
The city’s policy, which allows any individual to choose the changeroom or washroom that aligns with their personal gender identity, follows the Saskatchewan Human Rights Code.
Barry Wilcox, interim head of the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission joined John Gormley on Feb. 17 to discuss the commission’s role.
Nearly two dozen speakers have requested to speak during the Standing Policy Commitee (SPC) meeting while over 300 people have submitted comments on the matter.
Administration has not made a recommendation for the committee.
