The Saskatoon Blades have gone nearly a month without losing a WHL game in regulation time.
Saskatoon ran its streak with at least a point to 11 games (10-0-1-0) on Wednesday with a 5-3 victory over the Swift Current Broncos at SaskTel Centre.
The Blades, who have won six in a row, haven’t lost in regulation since a 5-2 setback against the host Kamloops Blazers on Feb. 10.
The victory Wednesday improved Saskatoon’s record to 43-13-4-1. The Broncos fell to 28-29-1-2.
The Blades built a 3-0 lead on goals by Josh Pillar (at 1:26 of the first period), Jayden Wiens (3:57 of the second) and Tanner Molendyk (7:33 of the second).
Goals 1:38 apart by Clarke Caswell (at 11:06) and Josh Filmon (12:44) got the Broncos back in the game in the second period, but Pillar scored his second of the game — this one at 19:43 of the middle frame — to restore the Blades’ two-goal lead.
Filmon cut the Saskatoon advantage to one again with a goal at 3:22 of the third period, but Brandon Lisowsky sealed it for the Blades with an empty-netter at 19:05 of the third.
Saskatoon netminder Ethan Chadwick made 36 saves. Reid Dyck stopped 23 shots in the Broncos’ goal.
The Blades are to visit the Prince Albert Raiders on Friday in the first game of a home-and-home. The teams are to meet again Sunday at SaskTel Centre.
