Connor Bedard reached another scoring milestone Wednesday, but this one came in a loss.
Bedard’s 60th goal of the 2022-23 WHL season wasn’t enough to save the Regina Pats, who fell 3-2 to the Edmonton Oil Kings at the Brandt Centre.
Edmonton won for just the ninth time in 60 games this season (9-48-3-0), snapping an 11-game losing streak in the process. The Pats dropped their second straight game to fall to 31-26-2-1.
Luke Robson opened the scoring for Edmonton at the 2:28 mark of the first period, but Regina’s Tye Spencer tied things up at 13:52 of the opening frame.
After Marshall Finnie scored at 15:36 of the first to put Edmonton up 2-1, Gavin Hodnett scored the eventual game-winner at 12:20 of the second period. Bedard’s goal at 8:01 of the third completed the scoring.
According to longtime WHL observer Gregg Drinnan, Bedard is the first Pat to score 60 goals in a season since Ronald Petrovicky had 64 during the 1997-98 campaign.
Kolby Hay stopped 31 shots in the Edmonton net and was named the game’s first star. Kelton Pyne made 27 saves for Regina.
The Pats are to visit the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday.
