Athletes from Team Saskatchewan are giving back to the Prince Edward Island community, which is their host during the Canada Winter Games.
According to Team Saskatchewan, female hockey players Jada Johns and Julia Duke were joined by chef de mission Mark Bracken at the Charlottetown Library Learning Centre as part of the Canada Games for Literacy Donation Program.
A number of children and young families met with the athletes, who spent the day reading, drawing and colouring together, while children enjoyed face-painting and balloon animals.
“(It was) just a great day,” Bracken said in a statement Thursday. “(It is) an opportunity for athletes to give back to kids to help literacy on the island. We’re proud to be part of it and it’s good to be here.”
The Canada Winter Games wrap up Sunday.
As of Thursday morning, Saskatchewan had amassed three gold medals, seven silver and eight bronze.
