The Saskatoon Fire Department had a busy couple of days.
It responded to two fires over the weekend one on Friday night and the second early Sunday morning.
After 10:15 p.m. Friday night fire crews were called to a house fire in the Nutana neighbourhood.
Saskatoon Fire dispatched three fire engines, one ladder truck and the Battalion Chief and when they first arrived they found smoke coming from the back of the home in the 400 Block 9th Street East.
When fire crews arrived they noticed smoke in the back of the home.
Once they got into the house firefighters were challenged with a large amount of combustible material but, once they got into the living room they were able to extinguish the fire.
In a statement by Saskatoon Fire, there was an excessive amount of fire load.
No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is believed to be an unattended candle in the living room.
Another fire 28 hours later
Early Sunday morning at around 1 a.m. the Saskatoon fire department was called to the city’s downtown.
Three fire trucks, a ladder truck, a rescue unit and the Battalion Chief arrived in the 100 Block of Avenue E South.
When fire crews arrived they found the home in flames that came from a bedroom on the main floor of a raised bungalow.
Utilities were shut off at the scene and a fire investigator was called in.
All seven occupants got out of the home safely and there were no reported injuries.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
