A 26-year-old man is facing charges after a vehicle that was allegedly stolen damaged a number of other cars Thursday.
According to police, at about 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of Avenue P South and 17th Street West, officers tried to stop a vehicle that had been reported stolen.
Police said the vehicle sped off, but was tracked down nearby after “having caused damage to several vehicles near the intersection of 11th Street West and Avenue P South, before crashing into a tree on the southeast corner.”
The driver took off, police said, but witnesses told officers the man had gone in the direction of the 1300 block of Avenue O South. Police found and arrested the man, who was found to be carrying two knives.
Police said the man was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, dangerous driving, failing to stop after an accident, evading police, possession of stolen property over $5,000, and breach of conditions.
