Two women and a man found themselves in handcuffs after leading Saskatoon police and RCMP officers on a long chase in a stolen vehicle.
According to police, officers spotted a suspicious vehicle on Idylwyld Drive North at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. When the occupants spotted police, they took off and started weaving through traffic.
Police said the vehicle was quickly confirmed to be stolen, but when officers tried to pull the driver over, they instead took off at high speeds.
The pursuers on the ground backed off while the police air support unit tracked the suspects from the air.
The chase soon left the city, police said, with the occupants of the stolen vehicle heading north on Highway 12.
The officers in the police plane co-ordinated with the RCMP, police said, and the vehicle was intercepted near the Petrofka Bridge — which is about 60 kilometres north of the city — and was stopped using tire deflation devices.
Two women, aged 19 and 27, and a 39-year-old man were arrested, police said, and are now facing a lengthy list of charges including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle while being pursued by police, and possession of stolen property over $5,000.
