Saskatchewan wrapped up play at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts on Thursday with a 7-6 loss to Prince Edward Island.
The North Battleford-based rink of Robyn Silvernagle, Kelly Schafer, Sherry Just and Kara Thevenot finished the round-robin with a 2-6 record and missed the playoffs at the Canadian women’s curling championship in Kamloops.
The top three finishers in each pool are to advance to the playoff round, which is to begin Friday. The final is set for Sunday at 8 p.m. Saskatchewan time.
The playoff teams in Pool A will be determined after the round-robin ends Thursday night, while the teams advancing out of Pool B have already been determined. That trio comprises Northern Ontario’s Krista McCarville, Manitoba’s Jennifer Jones and Ontario’s Rachel Homan.
After a blank in the first end of Thursday’s game against P.E.I.’s Suzanne Birt, Silvernagle gave up a deuce in the second and a steal of two in the third before responding with three in the fourth.
After Birt took one in the fifth and the teams blanked the sixth, Silvernagle put up a deuce in the seventh to tie the game 5-5. The teams traded singles in the next two ends before Birt scored the deciding point in the 10th.
Saskatchewan hasn’t won a Scotties title since 2011, when Regina’s Amber Holland claimed the title.
