The RCMP is warning of a possible scam invoking the name of its boss.
According to a media release, the La Ronge RCMP got a report of a possible email scam using the name of RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki.
“We are notifying the public of the existence of this scam and confirming it is NOT legitimate,” the RCMP said in a release.
The documents accuse the recipient of a number of online offences. The letter says: “We are taking legal action against you for after (sic) a computer seizure of Cyber-infiltration for:
- Pedography
- Pedophilia
- Exhibitionist
- Cyber pornography
- Cyberpedophilia
- Sexual trafficking.”
The Mounties said anyone who receives the documents should delete them immediately and not reply.
“Always check the legitimacy of the sender or sending address before opening or responding to/acting on correspondence received,” the RCMP release said. “You’ll notice in the ‘From’ it has ‘RCMP’ incorrect.”
