The top-ranked team in the CHL flexed its muscles Saturday against the Regina Pats.
The Winnipeg Ice trailed the host Pats 3-1 in the second period before rattling off six of the game’s next seven goals on its way to a 7-4 WHL victory.
After Regina’s Stanislav Svozil and Winnipeg’s Connor McClennon traded goals, Brayden Barnett (with his first goal of the season) and Connor Bedard (with his 51st of the season) put the Pats up 3-1 in the second period.
Zack Ostapchuk got the Ice within one goal before the end of the middle frame, and then Evan Friesen, Matthew Savoie, Conor Geekie and Ostapchuk scored in the third period to put the Ice up 6-3.
Regina’s Sam Oremba cut the deficit to two before Savoie completed the scoring with an empty-netter.
Bedard also had two assists, hiking his WHL-leading point total to 103 in 41 games played. He has 24 goals and 15 assists in 13 games since returning from the 2023 world junior hockey championship.
Daniel Hauser made 27 saves for the Ice (43-7-1-0). Kelton Pyne stopped 26 shots for the Pats, who lost their second in two nights to fall to 25-24-2-1. Regina lost 6-5 to the Prince Albert Raiders on Friday.
The Pats are back in action Monday, when the Lethbridge Hurricanes are to visit the Brandt Centre for a 2 o’clock start.
