The third day of liquor permit auctions brought in millions more dollars for the Government of Saskatchewan.
Another six permits were sold, with all but one surpassing the $1-million mark.
The permit for Swift Current was the first to end shortly after 2 p.m., at $1,426,000.
The Nipawin permit was next, ending about 15 minutes later, at $800,100.
Shortly before 3 p.m., bidding on the auctions for Regina and Saskatoon permits ended, bringing in at least $1,523,500 for Regina and at least $1,475,100 for Saskatoon.
The permit for the Biggar store hung on until after 4 p.m., with a top bid of $1,105,000.
The Meadow Lake permit was still going as of 5 p.m., with a leading bid of $1,455,500 — an increase of more than $800,000 in about three hours.
The first lot closed Wednesday, with the second lot wrapping up Thursday.
In October, the provincial government announced it would close the last 34 SLGA liquor stores by March 31 and auction off the permits. The successful bidders will have to go through the SLGA’s permitting process and meet specific criteria, and stores will have to open within 18 months.
