The Mounties are asking for help from the public to name police dogs.
The RCMP’s Police Dog Service Training Centre (PDSTC) in Innisfail, Alta., is inviting Canadian children to offer suggestions for names for 13 German Shepherd puppies that will be born at the Centre this year.
All of the entries in 2023 must begin with the letter S. According to a media release, the PDSTC is looking for “original and creative names” for the dogs. The suggested names must contain only one or two syllables, and can’t have more than nine letters.
Kids aged four to 14 can enter, with only one entry per child. Entries must be made by March 16 through an online entry form.
One winner from each province and territory will receive a laminated 8×10-inch photo of the pup they name, a plush dog named Justice and an RCMP water bottle.
The contest winners and the winning names will be announced April 6 on the RCMP website and on social media.
