A man accused of abducting his young daughter to prevent her from getting a COVID-19 vaccine was granted bail Monday.
Michael Gordon Jackson was arrested in Vernon, B.C., in February of 2022 on a Canada-wide warrant after allegedly abducting the girl in order to prevent her from receiving a vaccination. His daughter was found safe by police at the same time, and was returned to her mother in Regina.
Jackson had been in custody since his arrest.
The high-profile case began in November of 2021, when Jackson allegedly failed to return his daughter to her mother in accordance with their custody agreement.
Jackson was granted bail following an appearance in Regina Court of King’s Bench on Monday, a court worker confirmed. The Crown consented to Jackson’s release during the hearing.
He was ordered not to have any contact with his daughter or her mother.
