The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) has offered a statement responding to a situation involving a bat that was captured at a Regina hospital last week.
In an emailed statement, the SHA says it works regularly with building maintenance and a contracted pest control company to ensure its facilities are effectively handling any pests that might venture inside.
“The Saskatchewan Health Authority has an ongoing surveillance and monitoring program when it comes to pest management,” the statement read.
However, because of high traffic in SHA facilities — like hospitals — it can be easier for pests to gain access.
In an instance where a bat might’ve got into a hospital, the SHA says environmental services will usually catch it and have it transported to the Salthaven Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Centre in Regina.
