It’s the biggest football game of the year.
Millions tune in every year to watch the class of the AFC and NFC square off for the Lombardi Trophy.
This year’s bout will be between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
The Super Bowl is also generating a lot of interest in Saskatchewan according to Matt Lee, spokesperson for the B.C.-based online gambling website PlayNow.com.
“We’re expecting the Super Bowl to be the most popular betting event in PlayNow.com history in Saskatchewan,” Lee said. “We’ve seen a slight lean on the Philadelphia Eagles to win the Super Bowl.”
Lee said thousands of people in the province have registered for the website.
The Super Bowl is also a big driver of business for the Red Zone Bar, a sports bar inside the Travelodge Hotel in Saskatoon.
“This is one of our biggest events besides like — UFC nights,” said Kiri Friesen, supervisor of the bar. “We have had people calling to book in for over a month now just to make sure they get a table.”
Friesen said over half of the bar was already booked by the Friday leading up to the game.
She said its maximum capacity is around 280 people, and she expects it to be packed Sunday night.
