The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed another key defensive player to a contract extension.
The CFL team announced Monday it had signed American defensive tackle Anthony Lanier II to a one-year extension. Lanier could have become a free agent on Feb. 14.
The signing was first reported by 3DownNation’s Justin Dunk.
His signing comes two days after the Roughriders announced they had signed defensive end Pete Robertson to an extension. Robertson also could have hit the free-agent market next week.
In a tweet, the 29-year-old Lanier verified Dunk’s report.

Dunk said the deal called for $250,000 in hard money, which would make Lanier the highest-paid American defensive player in the CFL. The new deal also included a $100,000 signing bonus, Dunk said.
The 6-foot-6, 285-pound Lanier recorded 19 tackles, eight sacks and two forced fumbles in 11 games last season. He has 32 tackles, nine sacks and two forced fumbles in 21 career games with the Roughriders.
