The Huskie Football Foundation’s Dogs’ Breakfast is serving up a big guest in 2023.
Super Bowl champion and Pro Football Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk will be the headline speaker at this year’s event.
Faulk spent 13 years in the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts and St. Louis Rams, appearing in two Super Bowls and winning the championship in 2000 with the Rams. The seven-time Pro Bowler is one of just three players in NFL history to rush for more than 10,000 yards and have more than 5,000 yards receiving.
Huskies head coach Scott Flory said he’s excited to help bring Faulk to Saskatoon.
“This guy is one of the best running backs to ever play the game of football,” Flory said. “It’s going to be special. I’m really looking forward to his speech and what he has to say.”
The annual Dogs’ Breakfast, Flory added, is not just important to the university’s football program, but also to the city and the province. All of the money raised for the Dogs’ Breakfast goes towards scholarships for the program and the student-athletes, and Flory said the team simply wouldn’t be as successful as it is without the Huskie Football Foundation.
John Hyshka, committee chair for the foundation, said the group has a lot of trust in Flory to continue pushing the program forward.
“We’re very confident that we’ve got a chance to go to the Vanier Cup again this year. It’s because the way (Flory’s) able to recruit the right type of players to come to our program, and the investment the university and other groups are doing to the program to make sure the players have the best,” Hyshka said.
Saskatchewan Roughriders players and alumni have typically been featured at the breakfast, but Hyshka said the foundation decided to change things up this year.
“The Riders have always been there for us and have brought speakers to our breakfast, so we’ll always look at balancing it between the CFL and the NFL,” Hyshka said.
Bringing Faulk to the breakfast is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, Hyshka added, saying the foundation is thrilled.
The Dogs’ Breakfast takes place at Prairieland Park on May 4.
