Connor Bedard helped stake the Regina Pats to a three-goal lead over the Medicine Hat Tigers on Sunday at the Brandt Centre.
Then the roof fell in on the Pats.
By the 13:47 mark of the second period, Bedard had scored three times and had assisted on Zane Rowan’s tally as Regina built a 4-1 lead. But the Tigers scored five straight goals and downed the Pats 6-4 in WHL action.
Bogdans Hodass had two goals during the Tigers’ five-goal outburst. Andrew Basha, Tomas Mrsic and Brayden Boehm (into an empty net) also scored during the Medicine Hat comeback.
Pavel Bocharov had the other goal for the Tigers, who improved to 19-21-7-1 and pulled into a tie with the Pats (22-21-1-1) for eighth place in the Eastern Conference. Regina has three games in hand.
Bedard has recorded 15 goals and 21 points in six games since he returned from the world junior hockey championship. He’s riding a 33-game point-scoring streak and now leads the WHL in goals (42) and points (85) and is tied with teammate Stanislav Svozil for the league lead in assists (43).
The Pats are to return to action Tuesday in Red Deer against the Rebels — the first game of Regina’s four-game road swing through Alberta.
