Ronald McDonald House Saskatchewan received a donation of $225,000 on Wednesday from the Saskatoon Knights of Columbus Council 1517.
Tammy Forrester, CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities Saskatchewan, said the two organizations share a lot of history together, and the Knights of Columbus name has been on the original donor board since 1985.
The charity provides a space for families of sick children who are receiving medical treatments in the province.
Forrester said one family has been staying at the house in Saskatoon after their eight-year-old son was diagnosed with brain cancer in May of 2022. That family, Forrester said, has expressed gratitude to the organization for providing a welcoming and comfortable space, and said staying at the house doesn’t feel like being away from home.
Edward Frank, with the Knights of Columbus Saskatoon Council 1517, said the group was very proud to make the donation. He said the charitable work from the Ronald McDonald House and testimonies from families are what encouraged the Knights of Columbus to make the donation.
“You can see the work that they do, for not only the children, the youth, but also for the moms and dads,” Frank said.
