It’s been three years, but there is a new champion at the Bedford Road Invitational Tournament (BRIT).
The Raymond High School Comets took down Saskatoon’s Walter Murray Marauders in a back-and-forth affair Saturday night 74-65.
The Marauders took an early lead and had a 12-point advantage at the half before the Comets made a push in the second half for the win.
A packed gym witnessed both teams battle it out as the Comets went undefeated in the tournament, beating three Saskatoon teams in the process.
They opened the tournament defeating host Bedford Road, took out Surrey, B.C.‘s Elgin Park in a quarterfinal and then was victorious versus Saskatoon’s Holy Cross in a semifinal and the final against Murray.
In the third-place game, Holy Cross beat Regina’s Riffel Catholic High School 79-75.
Raymond was truly the star of the tournament as it also took home most of the tournament awards.
Head coach Ryan Baldry was named coach of the tournament, the MVP was given to Aiden Arcus and Everson Harker was named an all-star.
Rounding out the tournament all-stars were Riffel’s Osagie Okunday, Holy Cross’ Easton Thimm, and Walter Murray’s Zach Hawley and Dilyn Morrin.
The team that displayed the most sportsmanship was awarded to Collingwood School from Vancouver, B.C.
