Connor Bedard had four assists in Team Canada’s 5-1 win over Sweden on New Year’s Eve, tying him with Eric Lindros for most points by a Canadian at the tournament.
Bedard now has 31 points during his world juniors career, tying him with Lindros. The Regina Pats forward also has 14 goals, which has him tied with former Pat Jordan Eberle for the most goals by a Canadian at the tournament.
Bedard has done this in just 13 games at the tournament.
Canada got goals from Joshua Roy, Brennan Othmann and Tyson Hinds in the first period, all of them assisted by Bedard.
Sweden scored their only goal of the game late in the period, with Ludvig Jansson beating Canadian goalie Thomas Milic.
The second period was scoreless but Othmann scored his second of the game against Swedish goalie Carl Lindbom in the third period.
Kevin Korchinski, a Saskatoon-product, scored in the final frame as well, with Bedard assisting that one as well.
The win over Sweden moves Canada into second place in Group A, only behind Czechia. Czechia beat Canada 5-2 on Boxing Day.
Canada will take on Slovakia, the third place team in Group B, in the quarterfinals.
