A number of snowfall warnings are in effect from Environment Canada, covering Saskatoon and much of central Saskatchewan.
The warnings, issued early Wednesday morning, said to expect five to 10 centimetres of snow, as heavy snowfall continues in parts of central Saskatchewan and west-central Manitoba.
The weather warnings covered the areas around Saskatoon, Martensville, Warman, Outlook, Watrous, Hanley, Kamsack, Canora, Humboldt, Wynyard, Wadena, Hudson Bay and Porcupine Plain.
“The snow will gradually taper off through the day on Wednesday and warnings will be ended,” Environment Canada said in a statement.
“Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.”
Shannon Moodie, with Environment Canada, told 650 CKOM that the storm system is the same one that battered the southern part of the province earlier in the week.
“We had a couple systems roll through over the past couple days,” Moodie said. “Yesterday we had a system that just brought a mess to southern Saskatchewan … That same system brought heavy snowfall – and continues to bring heavy snowfall – to the central part of Saskatchewan.”
A freezing rain warning was added later in the morning for the southeastern corner of the province, covering the areas around Carlyle, Oxbow and Carnduff.
According to the city, Saskatoon has already seen 10 centimeres of snowfall since a warning was issued Tuesday afternoon.
The city says more than 50 pieces of heavy equipment are working on the clean-up efforts, noting that some streets are down to one driving lane due to heavy drifting.
Ashley Pugh said she doesn’t mind winter, except for the driving in it.
“Pretty awful,” she chuckled, after getting stuck on her street in the Exhibition neighbourhood Wednesday morning.
“This street never gets plowed, which is understandable, but it does not make it easy for people who just have cars to get down the street. Many of my neighbours get stuck as well. It’s always a struggle.”
