Many Saskatchewan Roughriders fans hoped the CFL team would land Bo Levi Mitchell this off-season to shore up its quarterbacking situation.
That may still happen, but the Hamilton Tiger-Cats will have something to say about it.
According to TSN’s Dave Naylor, the Tiger-Cats acquired the rights to Mitchell from the Calgary Stampeders on Monday. The CFL made it official later in the day.

Hamilton sent a third-round pick in the 2023 CFL draft, a fifth-rounder in the 2024 draft and future considerations to Calgary in the deal.
Mitchell is due to become a free agent in February, so the Tiger-Cats will have the opportunity to negotiate with him until he hits the open market.
He could still become a free agent or the Tiger-Cats could swing another trade before February, which means the Roughriders may not be out of the running for his services just yet.
Cody Fajardo, who was Saskatchewan’s starting quarterback until being supplanted late in the 2022 season by Mason Fine, has suggested he will test the free-agent market. That started the speculation that the Roughriders would pursue Mitchell in the off-season.
Mitchell, 32, has thrown for 32,541 yards and 188 touchdowns in 165 career regular-season games in the CFL. He’s a two-time winner of the Grey Cup and twice has won the CFL award as the league’s most outstanding player.
This season, he lost the starting job in Calgary to Jake Maier.
