The hit of winter is continuing for parts of Saskatchewan.
After a weekend filled with highway travel advisories and road issues, more snow is on the way according to Environment Canada, which issued snowfall warnings Monday morning for southwest and west-central areas of the province with 10 to 15 centimetres expected.
“We have some light snow that is moving through the area (Monday) morning. Unfortunately, we do have another system that is tracking through Saskatchewan so that will bring another round of heavy snow,” said meteorologist Shannon Moodie.
“It’s really going to be starting (Monday) through Regina and then more so (Monday night) through Saskatoon.
“There will be some gusty winds as well; we’re looking at gusts about 60 (kilometres per hour). It’s not looking like it will be as bad as the previous system.”
Moodie said the weather service didn’t have any official snowfall measurements from the Alberta Clipper that pushed through the province on weekend. However, the City of Saskatoon declared a snow event after reporting 13 centimetres, or five inches.
“There are lots of people on Twitter posting some pretty white pictures but as for official exact amounts, I don’t have official numbers,” Moodie said.
According to Moodie, the warnings from this new system could be expanded.
“The system is still developing so those warnings could be expanded but those areas are where we are most confident on right now,” Moodie said.
After the system moves through, Moodie said things are expected to quiet down when it comes to snowfall.
“Unfortunately with that, we are getting into the colder temperatures. We are looking lows around -20 C or colder and daytime highs not rebounding too much, maybe around -15 throughout the week,” Moodie said.
“Through the weekend we may see a bit of a warmup — and by warmup I mean -10, not like we’ve been seeing through fall.
“Winter is here.”
