A police shooting on Avenue E North in Saskatoon on Thursday left a man dead, but police didn’t release his name at the time.
Through a family member and a now-unpublished online obituary, the man has been identified as Ronald Herman.
The 36-year-old was wanted by La Loche RCMP and reportedly armed with a gun when Saskatoon police officers encountered him early Thursday evening.
Herman was reportedly in breach of his release conditions and had removed his electronic monitoring device. A statement from Saskatoon Police Service Chief Troy Cooper said officers reported Herman pointed his gun at them both inside and outside the multi-unit home where he was shot.
No officers or members of the public were reportedly hurt in the incident.
Because it was an officer-involved shooting, Regina police have taken over the investigation. They’re asking anyone who may have seen what happened, or who took any video of the incident, to contact them.
