The victim of a fatal collision involving a City of Saskatoon transit bus was a 15-year-old boy, according to Saskatoon police.
The boy was a pedestrian when he was struck by the bus around 9 p.m. near the intersection of Pendygrasse Road and Clancy Drive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
On Thursday, police said the boy’s family had been notified. His name will not be released by police.
“No charges have been laid against the transit operator; however, the investigation is continuing,” police said in a statement.
In an emailed statement, Mike Moellenbeck, interim director of Saskatoon Transit, said the driver of the bus was not at work Thursday and “we do not know when they might return to work.”
According to Moellenbeck, the driver in question had more than 10 years of experience, and there was nothing concerning on their previous driving or employment record.
The City of Saskatoon is conducting its own investigation into the death, and issued a statement of condolence.
“Saskatoon Transit is deeply saddened,” the statement read. “Our thoughts are with this person’s family at this difficult time.”
