James Smith Cree Nation has a new millionaire in its community.
Rollins Head won a Maxmillions prize in the Sept. 23 Lotto Max draw after purchasing his ticket that afternoon from the Prairie North Co-op in Melfort.
Head went into town on the Monday after the draw and used the self-checker to scan his ticket at a local store.
“I didn’t believe it. I thought it was a mistake,” he said when the machine alerted him to the win.
He said he scanned the ticket twice more to determine it was, in fact, a winner. He then asked the cashier to check his ticket once again at another store.
“My hands were shaking,” he said. “People in the store were congratulating me as I was leaving.”
Head says he plans to fix up his house with the winnings. He also plans to enjoy his hobbies of quadding and hunting.
