The man charged with the murder of Megan Gallagher is to make his first court appearance Monday in Saskatoon.
Robert (Bobby) James Thomas, the 27-year-old facing a charge of first-degree murder in the case, is to appear before a Saskatoon Provincial Court judge Monday at 9 a.m., police said.
The charge came almost exactly two years after Gallagher was last seen. Her remains have not been found.
Thomas was arrested in Prince George, B.C., on Tuesday with help from local RCMP officers, and was to be transported to Saskatchewan to answer the charge.
His arrest was the fifth so far in the case, though the subjects of the previous arrests were charged with committing an indignity to human remains. Thomas is the only one charged with murder.
At a news conference this week, Saskatoon Police Staff Sgt. Grant Obst said he expects more even charges to be laid, saying the investigation “is far from over.”
Gallagher’s father, Brian Gallagher, told reporters that words couldn’t describe his emotions when he head about the arrest.
“We will never hug Megan again. We’ll never laugh with Megan again. We’ll never see her pretty smile again. And, as she promised me on Father’s Day, we’ll never play catch again,” he said.
