Saskatoon Mayor Charlie Clark is glad to see people out and about again this summer, and was excited to share something people will be able to rediscover in the city next spring.
Clark said Saskatoon’s council is moving forward on a new vision for the farmers’ market at River Landing. The new market will be called “Gather,” and is set to open in May. Clark said the revamped market, in the same location as the current farmers’ market, will be comparable to the Forks Market in Winnipeg.
The new market, Clark said, came from a concept developed by Ideas Inc., and will have 16 stalls housing food vendors, restaurants, craft sales, breweries and distilleries all in one place.
“It’s been great to see how people are getting out to festivals and enjoying the summer, and some of the old traditions coming back in full force like the Ex,” Clark said in an interview with 650 CKOM’s morning show Tuesday.
The mayor said he is looking forward to the new take on the old farmers’ market tradition, with different foods, big tables, and new offerings to feed the city. Clark said the new version of the market “shows off our local food scene” and offers a “chance for people to come together.”
The market will be open on Saturdays in the spring, summer and fall, with products from the market available year-round.
