A man is facing more than 20 charges after an incident on Montreal Lake Cree Nation earlier this week.
On Monday, RCMP officers were called to a home on the First Nation after receiving a report of unwanted people inside a home.
Police later found out a man and woman were inside, and both were on court-ordered conditions not to be in the community. The woman was also wanted on a warrant for possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking.
The woman eventually left the home after police arrived, but the man was still inside. Later, officers heard a gunshot from inside.
Saskatchewan RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team was called to assist, and attempted to convince the man to exit the home for several hours. He was seen with a firearm and a knife.
At about 10 p.m., the man came out of the home and assaulted an officer by attempting to disarm them while he was being arrested, RCMP said. The officer was not seriously injured.
A 34-year-old Montreal Lake mam now faces 24 charges, including assault on an officer, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and possession of a dangerous and prohibited weapon.
He will appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Thursday.
Meanwhile, a 33-year-old woman, also from Montreal Lake has been charged with failure to comply with a release order. She is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Friday.
