Heat warnings remained in place Wednesday for the southwest corner of Saskatchewan.
Environment Canada first issued the warnings late Tuesday afternoon and they were extended early Wednesday. The warnings cover areas around Shaunavon, Maple Creek, Cypress Hills, Leader and Gull Lake.
“A surface ridge of high pressure will bring daytime high temperatures in the low to mid-30s with overnight low temperatures in the mid to high teens beginning today over areas of southwestern Saskatchewan,” the weather service’s advisory said. “Normal temperatures for this time of year are highs near 27 and lows near 11.
“Temperatures will begin to moderate on Saturday as the surface ridge and accompanied hot air mass track off to the southeast.”
