A flight scheduled to touch down in Saskatchewan next week will bring about 230 Ukrainians to the province, where supports, housing and other services will be waiting.
The flight was announced Tuesday by Saskatchewan Immigration Minister Jeremy Harrison, and follows a flight that touched down in Regina in early June, carrying 210 people fleeing the conflict in their home country. The second flight is scheduled to touch down Aug. 10, but that may change depending on the circumstances.
In a news release issued Wednesday, Harrison said planning is already underway to ensure those arriving in the province have everything they need.
“A number of community groups, organizations and individuals continue to help Ukrainian families settle into our province,” Harrison said.
“Support for this important work has been awe-inspiring, and we can’t thank the people of Saskatchewan enough for the generosity and kindness they’ve shown toward Ukrainian citizens.”
According to the Saskatchewan government, the passengers on the flight will have access to temporary accommodation “and a suite of services, support and information related to living in Saskatchewan.” The government has already begun planning for the flight’s arrival, with more details to be announced in the coming days.
More than 1,500 displaced Ukrainians have arrived in Saskatchewan since the country was invaded by Russia on Feb. 24, the provincial government said.
