The Saskatoon Police Service’s Hate Crime Unit has laid a charge of common assault against a 32-year-old woman for what police are calling “a hate/bias-motivated offence.”
According to police, the incident happened May 2 at about 1:40 p.m.
A 23-year-old woman told police she was confronted by an unknown woman while at a library in the 200 block Avenue K South. The suspect started chasing the other woman while yelling racial slurs. The suspect then left the scene.
The police explained the Hate Crime Unit was created in January of this year to investigate hate-motivated crime and to assist with sentencing at the end of the judicial process.
More information from the police about hate-motivated crimes can be found here. The SPS also has an online reporting function for such cases.
