The Moose Jaw Warriors weren’t able to win Game 1 on the road in their second-round WHL playoff series Friday, losing 6-1 to the top-seeded Winnipeg Ice.
The Ice, which had a league-best 111 points in the regular season, scored six straight goals in the game at the Wayne Fleming Arena in Winnipeg.
The markers came from Owen Pederson and Jack Finley in the first period, Jakin Smallwood, Matthew Savoie and Pederson in the second and Mikey Milne in the third.
The Warriors, who are the fourth-seeded team in the Eastern Conference playoffs, finally got on the board late in the third on a goal from Brayden Yager.
Warriors goaltender Carl Tetachuk was taken out of the game for the third period and replaced by Jackson Unger. Tetachuk stopped 24 shots and Unger stopped five in his one period of play.
Ice goaltender Daniel Hauser stopped 18 of the 19 shots he faced.
Game 2 of the best-of-seven series is set for Saturday in Winnipeg.
