The Saskatoon Police Service seized a large cache of weapons after an eight-month investigation dubbed Project Greyhound.
According to a release from police, the Guns & Gangs Unit started the investigation in September into a 23-year-old man. On Wednesday, he was arrested during a traffic stop in the 2500 block of Eighth Street East.
During the stop, police found a bag containing a loaded handgun and cash under the driver’s seat. They also executed search warrants at a house in the 400 block of Edmund Park in Saskatoon and at a house in Marcelin.
The searches found eight rifles, four loaded prohibited firearms (converted flare guns), three loaded handguns and a shotgun. Police also seized thousands of rounds of ammunition, high-capacity magazines, silencers, evidence of gun modifications that included sawed gun barrels and stocks, and various gun parts.
Police also found crossbows, body armour, a conducted energy weapon and a small amount of cocaine.
The man is facing charges including trafficking firearms, trafficking cocaine, unauthorized possession of firearms, unsafe storage of firearms, possession of firearms in a motor vehicle, and carrying a concealed weapon.
The investigation is continuing.
