The Saskatchewan Roughriders added some international flavour to their roster Tuesday.
The Roughriders took three players in the CFL’s 2022 global draft: Swedish linebacker Jordan Genmark Heath (first round, fifth overall), Swiss linebacker Lukas Ruoss (second round, 14th overall) and French defensive back Maceo Beard-Aigret (third round, 23rd overall).
The 6-foot-1, 225-pound Genmark Heath has an invitation to attend rookie mini-camp with the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs.
Collegiately, he spent three seasons at Notre Dame — where he had 42 tackles in 39 games — and one at UCLA. In 12 starts with the Bruins last season, Genmark Heath recorded 55 tackles, 3 1/2 sacks, two fumble recoveries and one interception.
Ruoss, a 6-foot-2, 230-pounder, has been with the Swiss national team since 2012. He was with the Rhein Fire of the European Football League in 2021.
He previously played two seasons at Bemidji State, recording 64 tackles, 7 1/2 tackles for loss, 1 1/2 sacks, one interception and one fumble recovery over 13 games.
The 6-foot-2, 206-pound Beard-Aigret last played for the Potsdam Royals of the German Football League. In 2021, he had 14 tackles, two interceptions and six pass breakups in eight games.
A participant at the CFL global combine, Beard-Aigret played on the French national team from 2019 to ’21, and the U19 French team from 2017 to ’19.
