Grizzly bears Koda and Mistaya are awake from their very long sleep.
The two bears were hibernating at the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo for the last five months.
Zoo manager Jeff Mitchell said when the bears woke up, there was some confusion about if it was time to get up or not.
“When Koda woke up, he stepped out, he looked around a little bit, he shoved his face in the pile of snow that was right there, turned right around, walked right back in and fell right back asleep,” Mitchell said.
Mitchell said that compared to other years, the bears are definitely taking longer to get going.
“They’ve definitely been a little more snoozy,” he said. “Last year, they were a little more, ‘Let’s get out and start eating and getting a little more adventurous.’ Right now they have been taking a lot of naps.”
While they were sleeping, they both dropped some serious weight. Koda lost 128 pounds and Mistaya dropped 140.
