Correctional Services of Canada (CSC) has seized contraband and unauthorized items from the Saskatchewan Penitentiary near Prince Albert.
Due to vigilance from staff, the CSC said it seized crystal methamphetamine, marijuana, tobacco, fentanyl, suboxone pills, a smartphone and a charging block and cord from the recreation yard in the medium-security unit. The estimated value of the items is $275,779.
The CSC is investigating the incident and police have been notified of the seizure.
Some of the ways Correctional Services prevents items like those from entering the facility include tools like ion scanners and drug detector dogs to search the prison.
“CSC is heightening measures to prevent contraband from entering its institutions in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone,” the organization said in a release. “CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions.”
