A situation involving a man walking on the South Saskatchewan River’s ice wrapped up mid-morning Monday, Saskatoon police said.
Police received a call around 7 a.m., about a man walking on the ice.
Police and the fire department responded to the call. Kelsie Fraser with Saskatoon police public relations and strategic communications said there was concern for the man because the weather is warming to spring temperatures, which could have made the ice unsafe.
Fraser said police do not know why the man was on the river.
The fire department launched its boat to assist the man, and several police and fire vehicles were parked on both sides of the river near the Idylwyld Bridge.
As the situation wound down, the man appeared well and was seen at one point walking alongside the rescue boat.
