Saskatoon police say officers were involved in a shooting early Wednesday afternoon on the city’s west side.
According to a media release, police got a call at around 11:30 a.m., about a fight at a home on Avenue L South. Police say one of the men involved in the altercation took off on foot, armed with a handgun and a machete.
Officers found the man a short time later and, after a confrontation on Avenue U South, several shots were fired by police. The release said a 35-year-old suspect received a non-life-threatening wound.
Larii Cook lives on the street where the incident occurred and believes it happened around the noon hour. She was home watching cartoons with her children at the time.
“I just told my kids to go to their room, and I told them to stay away from the windows,” she said.
She recalled about half a dozen shots in quick succession. She said nothing like that had happened there before.
“First time … That’s the first time this happened,” she said.
Regina police will be investigating the incident.
