Kerri Einarson’s hopes of a three-peat remained alive Saturday.
The two-time defending Canadian women’s curling champion beat Tracy Fleury’s Wild Card #1 entry 11-6 in the 3-4 Page playoff game at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. That put Einarson into Sunday morning’s semifinal, where she’s to face New Brunswick’s Andrea Crawford.
Northern Ontario’s Krista McCarville beat Crawford 9-8 in an extra end in Saturday evening’s 1-2 Page playoff game at the tournament in Thunder Bay, a victory that put McCarville into Sunday evening’s final. She’ll play the winner of the Einarson-Crawford semifinal.
Einarson and Fleury finished atop the two round-robin pools, but both lost a playoff game Friday to drop into the 3-4 game.
Fleury — whose team sits atop the world rankings — led 5-4 after five ends, but she gave up four in the sixth and a steal of two in the seventh and Einarson pulled away.
In the 1-2 game, Crawford built up a 6-3 lead through five ends, but McCarville fought back and tied the game with a deuce in the 10th. The Northern Ontario skip then stole one in the 11th when Crawford’s takeout rolled out, leaving McCarville with a counter in the four-foot.
