Odell Beckham Jr. is trying to become this year’s Antonio Brown.
Win and your image shifts. For Brown, it went from an off-field disaster to becoming a Super Bowl champion with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and as he was catching touchdowns from Tom Brady, there was little discussion about the disturbing off-field life of Brown.
Of course, that lasted less than a year after he again reminded us why other teams kept passing on him as he skipped off the field after a fight with teammates and coaches.
For Beckham Jr., we’ve been watching him start to contribute and catch on with the Los Angeles Rams, and we’re watching Beckham skip around celebrating and consoling an upset opponent and the good stories of retribution are being written.
Remember when we were talking about Beckham Jr. pouting on the sideline and his family sharing disparaging things about his quarterback in Cleveland? That was three months ago and many thought, “Who would want this guy?”
The answer was a team willing to look beyond character and purely at the talent.
It can work in the short term and the Rams won’t care what happens after Super Bowl 56 as long as they’re being fitted for rings.
